A fresh, inspiring wind sweeps through the Museum Tinguely in the form of the Russian trumpeter and flugelhorn player, Alex Sipiagin and his energetic quartet. Sipiagin, who lived for more than 30 years in New York and has now settled in Italy, captivates with his robust, precise sound and dynamically unmistakable style. The internationally renowned Italian pianist, Antonio Farao, and Sipiagin’s long-time Russian companion, bassist Makar Novikov, along with drummer Sasha Mashin complement him perfectly. The driving, fluorescent sound of this band, with its pulsating rhythms, modern harmonies, and concentrated expression, guarantees a captivating concert set to turn the heat up at the museum.
Alex Sipiagin is an immensely multifaceted, versatile musician. Deeply rooted in tradition, he has developed a very contemporary, energetic style that bears his unmistakable signature. With perfect mastery of his instrument, he creates a full-bodied, powerful sound while also remaining agile and energetic. He has a flair for lyricism and long melodic arcs, but can also be a very deft virtuoso performer. In addition to over 20 album releases as leader, he has also worked with many well-known musicians (including Michael Brecker and Dave Holland), as well as playing and recording in the world of pop music (including Eric Clapton).
